FINANCIELE STRATEGIE
|
Born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, 12 April 1943. Citizen of The Netherlands. Mainly residing and working in Switzerland, Italy and Spain.
Kamer is one of the best known investment experts and financial authors in The Netherlands. Since over 30 years, he is regularly named and quoted in the media as the country's "financial guru" or "super investor" and the like. His writings are considered to be "influential". The Dutch business magazine Quote (comparable to Forbes) has him included in its list of most influential citizens of The Netherlands. |

Kamer is particularly popular among investors because of his annual Rienk H. Kamer-Symposium, held since 17 years every autumn in The Hague, The Netherlands (next will be on 28 November 2008). With some 2000 participants, it is the largest annual symposium for investors in this part of Europe. In a five hour "financial one-man-show" or "marathon lecture", as the media use to call it, Kamer presents to his audience insight into the global economic and financial developments, detecting new investment trends in it and advising certain investment strategies that could profit from such new trends.
|

As an investor and advisor, Kamer vested a reputation as early discoverer of new investment trends in the world, such as - in the past - emerging markets (since 1988), life sciences business (e.g. biotechnology), nanotechnology, and since 2001/2002 gold mines, China/India, commodities and energy (oil, gas, nuclear, etc.). Kamer is also known as often a courageous contrarian at the top of a hype or in an area nobody wants to go into.
The development since 2006/7 of the actual crises in housing, credit and banking, with negative consequenses for the US-dollar and recession in the USA and Europe have been explicitly and repeatedly announced by him in his publications, symposia and interviews since end of 2004.
Kamer gained general recognition to have warned in time for the secular bear market in stocks that started beginning of 2000, and to have been continuously correct in TV interviews thereafter about its further development. That includes 2007 and 2008.
Kamer is Head of Investments of a private and exclusive, international investment company with over 400 wealthy shareholders.

Kamer is also internationally known as a world wide active collector of antique and modern art as well as of old manuscripts and rare books, with a specialised library of first editions of almost all famous books about economy and finance since 1502. The only known 'free' copy (outside of 7 official libaries in the world) of history's first book about a stock market (Confusion de Confusiones, Amsterdam, 1688) as well as the only known copy of Das Manifest der Kommunistischen Partei personally signed and dedicated by Karl Marx and Adam Smith's own copy of the first edition of his Wealth of Nations (1776) are part of it.(See Arts & Books Search).

Kamer started his professional career at the age of 16 as a journalist in The Netherlands. At age 21 he became foreign correspondent of the German magazine Der Spiegel, for which he covered the European Union, NATO and Benelux countries from Brussels. Thereafter, he became chief reporter of the German economic magazine Capital. He has furthermore, alone or in participation with others, developed a series of new magazines in Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands.
Kamer has written hundreds of columns in four languages, and had, so far, four books published in Dutch and German: a children's book, an extremely popular bestseller in Holland about investing (All about Money; 1976), an autobiography and a philosophical essay on money (The tyranny of money). (All books are sold out.)
He did write introductions for the Dutch editions of books by famous economists, such as Nobel Prize Laureats Friedrick von Hayek and Milton Friedman, as well as for a core book about the painter Rembrandt.
Kamer is intending to write a series of new books in the next coming years, i.a. about the history and art of speculation, specialities of his art collection and some faction. In future, he will have his books also published in English.

In the late 70's and early 80's Kamer developed investment programs in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, through which investors could claim extremely large tax deductions. This widely publicized fiscal-financial invention was named "the super deduction" in a very wide coverage by the press. The investments were structured on the basis of real estate in the USA (farmland, shopping centers, office buildings, desert development, condominium projects), which in the time were very much sought after by European investors, burdened by heavy tax rates from socialist governments and a constant cold war threat at their doorstep.
The spectacular tax shelter became an item of feverish debate in the professional and general press, and earned Kamer again a new publicity title: "fiscal genius". However, it also became a prominent subject of political debate in parliament. The business magazine Management Team concluded: 'Kamer is the only Dutch citizen non-politician, who achieved to force a governement to change its tax laws'.
Dutch and American authorities 'arranged', through a common legal battle, to try to stop Kamer in continuing to develop new fiscally favourable investment instruments. However, Kamer (although not a lawyer) defended himself in the high profile trials and after years of battle, finally came out of it as the victor in the early 90's. In being his own attorney in the complex American part of the battle, the presiding judge of the US Court of Appeals in San Francisco (Cal.), in his written opinion, 'congratulated' Kamer with the remark that in representing himself he did that "considerably better than he would have been served by most attorneys".
In The Netherlands, Kamer – returning from the legal battle in California on Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport – got, as quoted from the nation's quality newspaper NRC Handelsblad, a press reception 'more impressive than usually is the case for the head of a friendly nation.'. He was applauded by a large part of the population for his victory, which caused his popularity in the financial community and beyond to be increased remarkably.

In 1985, Kamer started his actual Investment Brief Financial Strategy (in Dutch: Financiële Strategie, www.fs-inter.net), which enjoys intensive reading and close following by high net worth and institutional investors of The Netherlandsand Belgium. It is described as a High Quality Niche Specialist publication. Kamer's articles and opinions have repeatedly been recognized by the media as having, from time to time, immediate influence upon investor behavior at a larger scale, and consequently an impact upon the Stock Exchange, in the Netherlands and sometimes also in other countries. Although repeatedly requested for an English language edition, Kamer has kept his publication exclusively in the Dutch language until now. Nevertheless, translations of his articles, having been produced by interested investors themselves, are sometimes circulating around the world. (This is one of the reasons to have this website about Kamer's background published on the internet in English.)
|

The success of Kamer's annual symposium automatically shows that he must be both a pleasant and an instructive speaker about such subjects as investments, economy and finance.
Since 17 years he proves to be capable to fascinate a large audience for five hours, almost uninterrupted, as the sole speaker. (See: SYMPOSIUM above.)
Apart from this symposium, Kamer accepts from time to time invitations to be a guest speaker (for 1 to 2 hours) in universities, conferences, panels, seminars or special events of business clubs, corporations, and the like. Kamer is able to deliver his speeches in English, French, German and Dutch.
